"You succeed best by helping others to succeed."
                                                                                           - Napolean Hill

Over the years, Avivara has developed a number of policies, structures and financial systems that can be utilized to assist other non-profit, non-government educational organizations operating in Central America, but who do not have a 501(c)(3) public charity status in the United States.

Currently, Avivara serves as a sponsoring 501(c)(3) public charity for three other Guatemalan organizations and one Nicaraguan organization by collecting tax-deductible donations on their behalf in the United States, and then passing those donations on to them (minus a small administrative fee for processing the donations.)

Avivara is not directly involved with the administration of these organizations. However, as part of its due diligence, Avivara has vetted each of these organizations and does review their financial reports and operations on an annual basis to ensure that they are utilizing the donations they have received via Avivara to carry out their stated missions.

We are happy to be able to provide this service to the following worthwhile organizations also doing good work in education in Guatemala and Nicaragua.

In 2015, Becas Especiales Uspantan provided scholarships to 59 middle school students and 39 high school students. It also provided technology support through its computer lab.    School for New Mayas

New Mayas Students
High in the Cuchumatanes Mountains in the north of the department of Quiche, Guatemala, in the town of Xix, nestles an improbably-beautiful collection of buildings and gardens known as the School for New Mayas, (Centro de Formacion Nuevos Mayas.)

The school, which was started in 2001 under the auspices of the Association for the Development of the Families of the Ixil, was the result of courageous dreams on the part of teachers, staff and board members. These dreamers understood that social and economic advancement of community members rested on education of the children as well as of adults.

The school currently educates 93 students from the Ixil region, named for the language/ethnic Mayan group which dominates the region. The focus of the programs, which range from pre-primary through middle, secondary and career track courses, is the deepening and appreciation of their Mayan culture as well as the acquisition of knowledge and skills to allow them to act comfortably and effectively in the modern, global world. To this end, classes are taught either in Ixil or Quiche, the local Mayan languages, and in Spanish. Three students—two girls and one boy-- are chosen from villages and towns across the region by the local authorities. This two to one preference for girls represents an attempt to level the academic playing field in a geographical area where boys greatly outnumber their sisters in schools.

Donations to this program can be made by sending a check made out to Avivara/New Mayas to our Avivara office at 7202 33rd NW, Seattle, WA 98117. Please be sure to include your email address on the check. Or you can donate to them online by using the Paypal donate button below.
